Tanomadala Becomes an Official Supporter of the Papuan Independence Movement (Papua Merdeka)

30/08/2026 - 7:30 (UTC+7)

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, or goodnight, dear comrades.
Since 1963, Western New Guinea, or Papua, has been under Indonesian rule. Though Indonesia will try to say otherwise, this was not by choice. The so-called “Act of Free Choice” was nothing but a sham, a facade created by Indonesia to ensure its claim over the island’s gold. The people of Papua were scammed out of their freedom and rightful sovereignty. Since then, the island has been pushing for independence from Indonesia and, as of 2021, has been labelled as terrorists for fighting for what they deserve. Calling them terrorists is a bland excuse to let the army suppress their voices further. Indonesia has tried autonomy, but if Indonesia cannot start treating them equally to Jakarta, then their fight for freedom will not end.
I myself have Papuan roots, as my grandfather was Papuan-Moluccan; he had lived in Papua for a majority of his early years and had also been an advocate for the island’s freedom. My grandfather has always been a very inspiring figure to me, and hearing the things Papua had to go through and the things Indonesia has done broke my heart. Which is why I am happy to say that we at Tanomadala are publicly announcing our support for Papua Merdeka! Although their methods may not entirely align with our views, their struggle for freedom still is. We will still defend Papua’s right to sovereignty as if they were our own brothers and sisters. We are glad and proud to show our open support for them and hope that more people can join us in supporting their cause. We may not be able to fight in the field with the Papuans, but the least we can do is give them the worldwide recognition and support they deserve.
Glory and freedom to Papua!
stay tuned and stay proud, comrades!
